Meet Jo Ann Newsome

I am a retired Dept. of Defense (DFAS) employee. My major in college was business and at the ripe old age of 56 I got my Masters in Management. For the majority of my life, making/sewing clothing was my passion.

What's something interesting about you that not many people know?

For America's Bicentennial celebration I designed Martha and George Washington costumes for a couple and they won the award for Most Authentic.

Hobbies Outside of Quilting

Cross-stitching and reading.

Let's Talk Quilting

We sat down with Jo and asked her about quilting. She had some great answers to our questions!

How long have you been quilting?

It has only been the past 12 - 15 yrs that quilting has taken over my life.

Who taught you how to quilt?

One of our founders, Kathy Myers!

Why do you enjoy quilting?

Quilting allows me challenge myself and express art in a comfy manner that most people enjoy.

Would you ever repeat a quilt pattern you've already made?

The only quilts I have made more than once are baby quilts.

Tell us about your first quilt.

The very first quilt I made was for the birth of my great-niece, Grayson Miller (college age now). Her nursery was moon and stars and I was working part-time at Hancocks. They had great blue and yellow moon/stars fabric...the rest is history. The space here won't hold all I've learned since that quilt.
