August 2024 Newsletter

Updated: Nov 17, 2024

Tuesday, Aug 27, 6:30 p.m., Meeting In-Person At New Life Church in Gahanna.  NOTE: We are meeting in Room 206/207

Felice Dahlhausen is our speaker for Aug 27.

The speaker for the August Guild Meeting is Felice Dahlausen. After thirty-two years as a high school art teacher Felice retired and moved into a new artistic path. She now explores possibilities with fabric and thread creating art quilts. As a high school art teacher, she loved exposing her students to varied art experiences and she continues to explore different techniques herself. As a teacher she taught drawing, painting, photography and graphic design.

Felted wool combined with cotton fabrics and embroidery stitches are Felice's chosen materials. Her goal is to strengthen her artistic work and learn new techniques that will provide growth in the skills she uses. She recently explored Indigo Shibori and printed dyeing techniques and have included those fabrics in current work. She enjoys hand appliqué as well as pieced work but always includes added stitches for texture and pattern. She uses Apliquick© tools to form the shapes she will appliqué.

Felice loves sharing the processes with others and enjoys that as much as creating the works. She has created patterns for others to use but also welcomes opportunities to teach techniques with student design driven compositions.

Nature is her main inspiration; however, she has started to venture into abstract pieces. Felice lives in NE Ohio and enjoy hikes in the parks as well as taking in the insect and plant life at her pond and perennial garden. Travel always provides new possibilities.

Felice's work has been exhibited at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival, Pacific International Quilt Festival and the Vermont Quilt Festival besides regional shows. Please check out her website at felicequiltdesigns.com.
