September 2025 Newsletter

Hi! Sorry this newsletter is a week late, but I had too much fun during the retreat and forgot to type the newsletter. Every retreat I attend I say it is the best – this one was no exception.  There was plenty of sewing time, many good friends, several shopping adventures, lots of food, and FIREWORKS! Not much more can be expected unless it is two nights of fireworks. A special thank you to Sam, Monique, Jayne and Takia for planning and coordinating everyone. Thank you to Carol for making sure all the power cords and extras get there and back.

Our August speaker was Molly Todd. Her mission of turning ill children’s art work into lasting quilts of love is amazing. It always inspires me to do more and reach out to those in need when I listen to someone such as Molly.  If you missed her presentation, check out her website: www.artquiltsbymollytodd.com.

Also in August, Carol taught the Tamarack jacket class with the registration fees going back to the guild. Catie taught two classes of the Everything But the Machine class this summer with fees going back to the guild.  These classes have been lots of fun and profitable for the guild.  If you have an idea for a class that you would like to teach, please let one of us know!

Our September speaker is Wendy Kendrick.  She creates art quilts using collage, fabric art, and mixed media. Much of her art focuses on the special bond that women enjoy with each other, very much why we have a guild. Her art has been displayed at the Columbus Museum of Art, The Ohio Craft Museum and she was featured on the PBS series, Broad and High (season8, episode7). She will have some merchandise for sale at the meeting.

Board and Committee Chairs

We have some spots open on the board and committees. YOUR GUILD NEEDS YOU!

The vice president position is open.  One person has expressed a possible interest, but only if she can share the position.

The membership chair is open. This can also be a shared position.

Shop Hop chair is open.

Equipment chair is open.

I haven’t heard from anyone else, but if you are a current board or committee chair and do not wish to have that position again please let me know. Slate of officers will be presented in October and voted on in November.

Charity Quilts

A handmade quilted cover in use in a NICU

We still need to complete 4 more incubator covers for the NICU at Children’s hospital.  Jennifer has pre-cut kits. She would be happy to sew the 6 pieces together . This project is like making 6 potholders or placemats, per another guild member’s description.

Here is a picture is of one of the covers in use.

Let’s finish up this worthwhile service project.  I finished one and made another.  They are pretty quick to do – Jennifer has done the hard work of cutting out the pieces all you have to do is quilt and sew.

Jennifer is doing another charity project making Eye Spy quilts.  If you have novelty fabric, cut 5x5 squares and sew together into 6 square by 7 square and add a border.  Jennifer has a stash of novelty fabric squares if you need some.  She also has batting, backing, and binding available.  These Eye Spy quilts are great for children learning shapes and new words.

Fund Raiser

Start gathering extra fabric that you would like to rehome.  In September and October we will have a fabric scrap table.  Members can bring in their unneeded fabric and then take home some new treasures for $5 a Kroger plastic bag full.  The more people who participate the more variety we will have.

Swaps

Join us for a swap of bow ties made from 30’s reproduction prints and Kona NATURAL.  Pattern is available on the FaceBook page or from Mary.  You need to make 36 blocks and bring them to the October meeting, Mary will collect and redistribute at the November meeting.  They go together quickly and easily!
