October 2026 Newsletter
OUR NEXT MEETING IS THE QUILT SHOW: TUESDAY October 27 at 6:30pm at Saint Catharine Catholic Church, 500 S Gould Rd, Bexley. NOTE: The November meeting will be on November 17th due to the Thanksgiving holiday the following week. The 3rd Tuesday, instead of the 4th. |
Happy Autumn! I hope you are enjoying the beautiful Fall weather as much as I. Our October meeting will be our 2026 Quilt show. We will bypass our normal meeting and sharing in order to fully enjoy the creative prowess of our friends.
Quilt Show Information:
The guild quilt show will take place at our October guild meeting. We will present quilts as a bed turning as we have done the past couple of years. For those who are new to this, the quilts, by category, will be placed on a table and starting from top to bottom each quilt will be held up and shown while a short description is read by the quilter or the presenter.
Download the show information from the guilt website. (entry categories, rules, and drop off in formation). Also attached at the end of this Newsletter.
Hopefully we will be able to announce a slate of 2027 officers for your consideration at that time. We depend on our officers to keep the guild running, so consider giving your time and support to keep this lovely guild running.
A large number of our members attended, volunteered at, and even showed at the AQS quilt show. I was amazed and inspired by the talent on display. Our guild did super well at all those things. Hopefully AQS will be back in 2028.
Hope to see you all October 27th.
Karen
I just want to say thank you to the volunteers that helped with the AQS show and those who will be helping with the quilt show in October. You are all appreciated, Melanie
Join Our Leadership Team: Help Shape the Future of Our Guild!
Our quilt guild thrives because of the creativity, energy, and dedication of its members. As we look ahead to our next term, we are seeking nominations for key Officer positions. Treasurer: Manages the guild’s budget, handles dues and disbursements, files taxes and presents brief monthly financial updates.
Secretary: Take notes of the meetings, take photos of Show & Tell and post them on Facebook. Put the Newsletter together every month.
(Note: We welcome co-officers if you’d like to share a role with a friend!)
You don't need years of experience—just enthusiasm and a desire to support our quilting community!
Self-Nominations: Ready to step up? We would love to have you!
Nominating a Peer: Know someone who would be great in one of these roles? Please check with them first, then submit their name.

November Meeting
A reminder: our November meeting will be on November 17th due to the Thanksgiving holiday the following week.
Our November speaker is Marty Kotter, mixed media artist. This is her bio:
Since childhood, nature and creativity have been a part of my life. While I was growing up, my family vacationed in wild places in national parks and forests of California. While my dad fished, I kept busy recording and interpreting my surroundings through photography and drawing. My dedication to nature intensified as I earned degrees in the biological sciences and human ecology. I became a classroom teacher and later an interpretive naturalist. My art has evolved from pen and ink into the fiber arts where I incorporate techniques of silk painting, sewing, beading and quilting into my pieces.
Most of my work is representational and inspired by nature. Although many of my pieces are pretty pictures, I encourage the viewer to take a closer look, and ask questions. Often, I portray creatures that survive in a fine balance of environmental conditions. I encourage my viewers to adopt a conservation ethic of preserving natural ecosystems and their creatures. We humans are also a part of nature, and what we do to damage the environment, will eventually harm us. I believe in what Henry David Thoreau so eloquently stated, “in wildness is the preservation of the world.”
Please join us in welcoming her to present at the guild meeting on November 17, 2026.
TREASURER’S UPDATE:
As the guild year nears its close, here's the financial update. As in past months, I included as many items as I could and noted if there were any key details relating to an item. The AQS show really helped with the quilt raffle ticket sales - now at $722! We're in the home stretch on the raffle quilt - now is the time to get the word out to your family and friends! Just send them to commonthreadsquilt.org and they can purchase their raffle tickets. There will not be cash or check raffle ticket sales at the quilt show - it all needs to be through the Zeffy platform so we can draw the winner at the quilt show.
As of October 16, 2026, the bank account balance is $6,401.83. I have not had anyone reach out with interest in the Treasurer role - please email if you want more behind the scenes info! As a reminder, if you have an expense or deposit you can find the corresponding form on the website. I think I have heard from everyone about all expenses to date and through the end of the year, and all checks are with folks, but please get in touch ASAP with your completed expense reimbursement form if you have anything. Happy quilting all!
WAYS AND MEANS:
I would like to ask for fabric donations for use in making raffle baskets. Jewel tone fabrics (solids, batiks, prints). Doesn't have to be fat quarters- leftover precuts from a finished project or remnants big enough to do something with. Orphan blocks are also welcome! I can also use donations of quilt themed items such as decorative knickknacks, mugs or jewelry. Judy Starr-Lintner
MONTHLY BASKET RAFFLE:
Buy tickets for $1 or 5/$6. A new winner every month will win all kinds of quilting related items!
MONTHLY 50/50 RAFFLE:
Buy tickets for $1 or 5/$6. Winner will get half the money. The other half goes into the Guild Treasury.
BIRTHDAY FQ SWAP:
We’re taking signups for the 2027 Birthday FQ swap!!! How does the Birthday FQ swap work? Each participant signs up for a fabric of their choice (polka dots, batiks, Grunge, Tula Pink, etc). You will then receive a list at the beginning of the year of each participant’s birthday month and fabric choice. At the meeting for that month, bring a FQ of that person’s fabric choice to the meeting, place it in their bag, and they will go home with a bag full of FQ’s for their birthday!
The more people that participate, the more FQ's every one will receive the month of their birthday…how fun is that?!?
Don’t worry, you don’t have to purchase a brand new FQ for everyone…you can ’shop’ your stash first, then you only have to fill in the rest! Please contact Betsy Zimmerman for more information or to sign up!
MONTHLY FQ RAFFLE:
There is no FQ raffle this month due to the quilt show, but next month (November) we will raffle Polka Dots! Remember, for each FQ you turn in, you get a raffle ticket!
MEMBERSHIP:
The membership list on the website has been updated to reflect 2026 members as of the October meeting. If you see something inaccurate in the list, please contact Valerie at vsrake@gmail.com.
RETREATS:
The 2027 Spring retreat will be in Parkersburg, WV. The dates are April 29-May 2. More info to come closer to the date.
CHARITY QUILTS:
Please turn in any completed quilt tops. We are also looking for quilters for donated charity quilts. All supplies provided. No need for a long arm. Kits will also be available. Contact Jennifer Thurmond wwaterjen@yahoo.com or text to 614.746.2969.
SUNSHINE COMMITTEE
If you become aware of any guild member who is ill, facing surgery, or has had a death in the family, please let Karen Beckley know. Also, if you know of any reason to celebrate or receive a pat on the back such as graduation, promotion, or award, we would like to publish it in an up coming newsletter. Please contact Karen with any celebrations. Email: karensew@aol.com or text to 614-264-6566, so that a card can be sent out on behalf of all of us. Please leave your name and contact info so you can be contacted with any questions.
