May 2025 Newsletter

May is such a busy month with Mother’s Day, graduations and ballgames. Hopefully everyone is finding time to sew.  I know I am really looking forward to the retreat to get some serious sewing done.

I really enjoyed Christa Watson’s presentation at the April meeting followed by her workshop the next day. Our May speaker is Ricki Rosen.  Ricki is a local talent.  You can see her embellished dresses on Instagram @rickisdresses.  She is also opening an exhibit at the James Hospital beginning June 5th. I used to work with Ricki and I’m looking forward to having her share her creative journey at our guild meeting May 27th.

Some of us took advantage of Catie Gynn’s knowledge and generosity and did a workshop to make the Everything But the Machine Tote. She donated the workshop fee directly to the guild so it was a super money maker.  Catie is going to offer the workshop again Saturday, July 19th, sign up is on the website!  Also, if anyone else is  interested in hosting a workshop on something several might be interested in learning to do and donating the registration fee back to the guild, let us know!

Speaking of fundraising – don’t forget the raffle for the retreat for up to ten people. We sold tickets at the April meeting and will be selling tickets at the May meeting.  We will be drawing the winner at the May meeting.  If you would like to purchase tickets but are not able to attend the meeting, contact Bev Kenney or Betsy Truex and we can help you out.  They are $1.00 for one or 6 for $5.00.

THERE IS A CHANGE TO OUR SUMMER SCHEDULE!!

June will be our PicNic and yard sale, not Karla Zadnik. Instead of the guild providing the food, we will do a potluck.  I will have a sign-up sheet at the May meeting.  If you want to participate in the “yard sale”, the cost will be $5.00 for a space.

Karla Zadnick will be our speaker in July.  Due to a scheduling conflict she needed to swap months. It will be fun to hear about all of her quilting experiences and see some of her beautiful quilts.

Charity Quilts

Jennifer will have the backing, donated juvenile material and pattern at the retreat and May meeting.  She will also have some batting available but this would be a good project to use scrap batting.  Sizes needed are approximately 14x32 and 22x22 and 17x23 so start looking through those batting scraps or Frankenstein some pieces.

The guild goal is 15 incubator covers, but we can make more!  Feel free to call, text or email Jennifer if you want to pick up materials and directions prior to the retreat or May meeting.

Fat Quarter Raffle and Birthday Swap

Birthday swap for the month of May is Teresa Witt- Polka dots or circles

Fat Quarter raffle – Red White and Blue/ Patriotic. One raffle ticket for each fat quarter you bring in.  Lets have a big bundle for the winner!
