Our speaker was Scotty Jones, brother of Carol Cornette. He is a digital artist, printmaker and fine artist. He shared his story and his process with us, and showed us some of his unique products. He sells them at shows across the country. Look for him at Winterfair in December, and check out his website for his other events. www.urthyfiberart.com
Last month’s Quilt Show was fabulous and fun! Thank you to Kandra and everyone else who helped.
Treasurer’s Report – Betsy Truex-Powell:
Our expenses have been a bit higher than our revenues this year. We paid some debts from last year, and we paid ahead for our building rental. We have a lot of time to raise money, though.
Ways & Means – Judy Starr-Lintner:
Judy is forming a committee to spread the art of quilting, and make some money for the guilt. We’d like to start a class for grandma & child to learn sewing. It would be at the Reynoldsburg Senior Center in July or August. If you are interested in being on the committee, contact Judy at jslotr@aol.com.
Retreats – Sam Chapman, Monique Muncy, Takia Wallard:
The retreat price is frozen thru 2025 according to our contract with Berlin Resort. After that, the price will increase significantly. Going forward, the committee is collecting data from members, and comparing prices with other venues. Ideas for fall are Shawnee State Park or Bolts & Quarters in Parkersburg West Virginia.
Sign ups for the May 2025 retreat started tonight at the meeting. You will be able to sign up online starting tomorrow. Signups will be cut off at 42 people.
Board Meeting:
Your board met on Sunday and discussed the following things:
Teacup Auction: At the November meeting, we will have a holiday get-together and teacup auction fundraiser. This is an idea brought to us by Melanie Megias (and her mother). Everyone brings something to auction off. Buy tickets and put them in teacups, or depending on how classy we are, Solo cups. The items can be homemade, purchased new, gently used, whatever you think a fellow quilter might enjoy. Suggestions were fat quarters, a quilting book, scratch off tickets, an antique basket, food, etc. Like the raffle baskets only on a smaller scale. There will also be food, which will have to be carried.
Betsy T-P has some things we can raffle off, fair tickets etc from donations the guild makes.
We need other fundraising ideas. Please let Bev Kenney know if you have a good idea.
Friendship Swap – Mary Hoffman:
She needed a few more people. I think she got them. Pass it to the same person every month. You will end up with a beautiful quilt.
April Speaker: Christa Watson:
Christa is coming from Las Vegas to talk to us about machine quilting. Her workshop will be the next day, and will be on Walking Foot Wonders and Free Motion Favorites. The cost is $42 plus the price of the book. You will bring quilt sandwiches and learn several different designs. It will be at the Pataskala Library. If not enough members sign up, we will open it up to other guilds and non-members.
Please support our workshops!
