Common Threads Newsletter January 2025

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and has tons of exciting projects planned for 2025!

There is a BUNCH of information included in this newsletter you might want to save it for future reference.

Carol, Bev and the Board have planned an exciting year with lots of favorite activities and some new things being planned.  One of the biggest new items is our website.  Cheryl, Betsy and Valerie have worked VERY hard getting the website ready and it is being tested by board members to work out any bugs.  It will be available to all very soon.

The program schedule for 2025 is on the public portion of the website that you can see now.  January 28th’s meeting will be a zoom meeting.  Holly Ann Knight of String and Story will be our speaker.  Look for sign in information toward the end of January. You don’t want to miss her energetic presentation.  If you are not familiar with her, she owns a quilt store in Duluth, Georgia. She has a brick and mortar store, an online store and she teachers classes both in person and online.  She was recently featured on an episode of Quilt Shop Drop In by Jenny Doan and Missouri Star. We are looking forward to hearing and seeing her presentation.

At the November meeting members voted on an increase in dues to $40.  Membership also voted to allow a swipe fee for any credit card purchase.  This ensures that the guild gets the full amount of dues or program fees.  Members that are 75 years or older do not need to pay dues, however if they choose they can donate any amount up to or equal to the $40.  As all of you are aware inflation has increased prices on many items. The amount we pay for our meeting space has increased, speakers have raised their cost, and travel expenses for speakers have increased.  The board is working on some ideas to generate some revenue for our guild.  If anyone has ideas to suggest please do!  In order for our guild to continue to offer exciting speakers and workshops we need the support of the membership.

The quilt show in February is our first way to generate funds through raffle baskets and an antique quilt raffle.

Our quilt show will be held during the regular meeting time on February 25, 2025 at the new St. Catherines location. VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED TO HELP COLLECT ENTRIES AND WITH JUDGING – Please contact Kandra Waugaman to volunteer (kandra.flavell@gmail.com)

This juried show is in the style of an antique bed turning. Your quilt will be placed on a “bed” (table) and each quilt will be turned and held up for the audience to see while the description and story you submit about the quilt is read aloud. The winning quilts for each category will also be revealed during the show. The public is welcome to attend the show.

  • Each member can enter up to 3 items in the show, for $5 each

  • Drop off dates and times will be announced closer to the event based on volunteer availability, please see the attached entry form for category details and entry fees.

  • Judging and show set up will take place during the day on February 25. Please contact Kandra Waugaman to volunteer.

  • Sue Atkins is coordinating raffle baskets for the show, please contact Sue to donate items.

  • There will be an antique raffle quilt, courtesy of Jennifer Thurmond. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the show but members are also encouraged to sell tickets to friends and family prior to the show. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. To presell the tickets, print the attached raffle ticket document and bring the filled in tickets and money to the show on Feb. 25.

Membership

Greetings CTQG Members!

On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, the guild members who attended the guild meeting voted to increase yearly membership dues to $40.00 per year.  Members who are 75 years old or older, or who will turn 75 during the current membership year(2025) will not be charged dues.

Please go to our new website at  commonthreadsquilt.org   to join the guild for 2025.  Select “join” to join the new website and then select the appropriate pricing plan. Select “Experienced Quilter” if you are 75 years old or will be 75 in 2025. There will be no charge for your membership. All other members will select “2025 Membership”.

You have the option to pay on-line with a credit card or to pay by check through the US mail. When paying by credit card, you will see a cost of $42. This will cover the cost of the swipe fee. If paying by check, follow steps for online credit card payment but use coupon code MEMBER2025 when you get to the payment part. This will take the price down to $0 dollars, but allow you to continue the steps to join as a member.

Please make your check payable to Common Threads Quilt Guild in the amount of $40.00 and send it to the address below.

Please note that there is a “Donation” button under the Member Shop section. At the November meeting some members suggested that we create a way to pay a little extra to cover various costs that our guild may incur or even a way to donate to the guild in general. The “Donate” button is a way for members to make this donation in $5.00 increments if you choose to do this.

Step-by-step instructions to join have been included as an attachment in this e-mail.  If you have any questions, please contact either one of us by e-mail or text included below.

We thank you and welcome you to another year of sewing and growing with the guild.

Carol and I are excited (and a bit nervous) to serve the guild as presidents this year.  The technology piece scares me the most!  However, the guild belongs to all of us and it takes a village to keep it running.  If there is any capacity that you are willing and able to help with- please let us know.   We look forward to an exciting year.

Happy Quilting,

Bev and Carol!
