August 2026 Newsletter

OUR NEXT MEETING: TUESDAY August 25 AT 6:30pm at Saint Catharine Catholic  Church, 500 S Gould Rd, Bexley.

Please BRING CASH for the Raffle Basket Drawing and the 50/50 Raffle. All tickets  are $1 or $5 for 6.

I hope everyone has made it through the crazy weather we've had recently with no big problems. The weather should start cooling soon. I know I'm starting to think about quilts and fall decorating.

Due to illness in our original speakers' family, we're going to end the summer with a garage sale  and shared meal. If you want a table for the garage sale please let me know with a text message to 614-314-1717 and bring $5 in cash or a check made to Common Threads to the meeting. Feel free to share a table with a friend. If you just want to donate items for the guild to sell bring them along on August 25th with an idea of price. This is always a fun way to pick up interesting things!

We'll have the doors open at 6 for set up then a super quick meeting and a potluck dinner. Please bring something to share and a drink. We'll have paper products. Please mark any  dishes that contain nuts or shellfish in case we have any allergies in our members.

After dinner we'll hold the yard sale. Table fees and all proceeds from the guild table will go to  the guild.

The out-of-town retreat starts the 27th in Berlin. That is always a fun time and as productive as one wants to make it! Hope to see you there.

Karen

We have two presenters remaining for this year. In September we will have Mandy Manno with a look into Laura Heine style collage as she is a certified Laura Heine instructor and also a  glimpse of her personal patterns to be released.

In November will have Marty Kotter, a local fiber artist who will share about how she creates her  art.

It has been my pleasure to put together the speakers for the guild this year. I hope that you  have enjoyed them and those of you who have taken workshops have benefited from the skills  of our presenters. We can always learn new skills. Thank you so much to those of you who participated in the workshops.

TREASURER’S UPDATE:

As promised last month, here's the update to where we are on actual expenses and income  against the planned budget. Like the report shared in June, since we are mid-year, this is incomplete and there are some timing mismatches on paired income/expense items. I included  as many items as I could and noted if there were any key details relating to an item. As you can  see in the programming and workshop detail, while programming continues to be the biggest net expense, increased workshop registration greatly helped offset the cost. Keep it up with the  raffle quilt ticket sales - $350 has come in so far! As of August 17, 2026, the bank account balance is $16,588.46. I have not had anyone reach out with interest in the Treasurer role - please email if you want more behind the scenes info! As a reminder, if you have an expense or deposit you can find the corresponding form on the website. I will not be at the August meeting  (first day of Kindergarten!) - please email (elizabeth.truex@gmail) me by Saturday 8/22/26 if  you need reimbursed at the August meeting so arrangements can be made!

WAYS AND MEANS:

I would like to ask for fabric donations for use in making raffle baskets. Jewel tone fabrics (solids, batiks, prints). Doesn't have to be fat quarters - leftover precuts from a finished project or  remnants big enough to do something with. Orphan blocks are also welcome!

I can also use donations of quilt themed items such as decorative knickknacks, mugs or jewelry.

MONTHLY BASKET RAFFLE:

Buy tickets for $1 or 5/$6. A new winner every month will win all kinds of quilting related items!

MONTHLY 50/50 RAFFLE:

Buy tickets for $1 or 5/$6. Winner will get half the money. The other half goes into the Guild  Treasury.

BIRTHDAY FQ RAFFLE:

Please bring your August FQ’s to the table before the meeting; there will be a gift bag for each  of the August birthdays. Also, please bring any from prior months that you still need to turn in  and we will make sure they get delivered to them.

MONTHLY FQ RAFFLE:

This month’s raffle will be Reds. Please turn them in before the meeting so that we have them  for the drawing during the business portion of the meeting. And remember…you get a ticket for  each FQ you turn in!

MEMBERSHIP:

The membership list on the website will be updated to reflect 2026 members as of the August meeting. If you see something inaccurate in the list, please contact Valerie  at vsrake@gmail.com
