OUR NEXT MEETING:

TUESDAY APRIL 28 AT 6:30pm at St Catharine Catholic Church

500 S Gould Rd, Bexley

Please bring cash to participate in the 50/50 Raffle.

APRIL MEETING:

First we will have Show and Tell.

We will then conduct the business meeting portion and the bylaw voting. If you can’t make the meeting but would like to share an opinion, please email commonthreads26@yahoo.com. You can choose to have your opinion read anonymously or by name to the members. We are looking at being able to offer an absentee voting option. This meeting will be a closed meeting, members only.

Thank you for your patience in the change to the order in conducting this month’s meeting. Melanie and Karen

Judy Sagara will teach a Bargello quilt workshop on May 16th from 10-3 at the Pataskala library. $30 for guild members, $40 for non-members. Please pack your lunch as we are not going to be taking an extended lunch break

There will be a sewcial sew on May 23rd instead of the Robin Ruth class. Due to my recent hand surgery and problems with recovery, my samples are not ready. We will reschedule at a future date.

The Accuquilt class has been put on hold until we can find a replacement teacher.

RAFFLE QUILT:

Thank you to all who made blocks for our raffle quilt. The top has been pieced and the finished quilt will be presented at our April guild meeting.

The committee is working on the raffle ticket process and putting together a schedule for displaying the raffle quilt at local quilt stores. And the final display of our quilt will be at the AQS quilt show in September 2026. We will be asking for volunteers to sit at our booth during the AQS show hours.

AQS quilt show September 2026

A sign-up sheet for volunteering at the AQS quilt show will be available at our next guild meeting. Areas to volunteer include, hanging and taking down quilts at start and end of AQS show, being a monitor during the quilt show hours, helping at the sewing area and bag check areas. Be sure to take a look and sign up. Times will be finalized closer to the show. AQS asked us to volunteer at the show in order to hang our raffle quilt there. Anyone who volunteers will receive free admission that day.

COMMON THREADS QUILT SHOW OCTOBER 2026

The guild quilt show will take place at our guild meeting for October. We will present quilts as a bed turning as we have done the past couple of years. For those who are new to this, the quilts, by category, will be placed on a table and starting from top to bottom each quilt will be held up and shown while a short description is read by the quilter or the presenter. We will have someone judge the quilts during the day and provide feedback. The categories and entry fee will be discussed at our April meeting. Start thinking about those projects you would like to enter.

MONTHLY FQ RAFFLE:

Tiny Florals. Any florals will do, but please consider smaller prints that are suited to a 2.5” square.

BIRTHDAY FQ RAFFLE:

Please bring your April FQ’s to the swap table ahead of the meeting. All FQ’s should be labeled to make sure they go to the correct person and know who they are from. Unable to come to a meeting? Consider sending them with another member to turn in or turn them into Betsy ahead of time. Missed FQ’s for prior months are always welcome; I will see that they get to them. Questions/Concerns…contact Betsy Zimmerman.

TREASURER’S UPDATE:

Retreat registrations are in the bank account and programming checks are being deposited by our speakers - all as expected! - dropping the balance slightly from March to (as of April 14th) $15,630.76. Expect the balance to be lower next month after retreat expenses are paid. If you need reimbursed for an expense, please complete the expense form on the guild website (https://www.commonthreadsquilt.org/guild-business-membership-documents) and email it to Betsy at elizabeth.truex@gmail.com

MEMBERSHIP:

The membership list on the website will be updated to reflect 2026 members as of the April meeting. If you see something inaccurate in the list, please contact Valerie at vsrake@gmail.com.

OUT OF TOWN RETREATS:

We are looking forward to the Out of Town Retreat at the end of the month. More information for the attendees will come out soon.

IN TOWN RETREAT:

The next In Town Retreat will be July 17 to 19 at the Reynoldsburg Senior Center.

CHARITY QUILTS:

Our new project for this year is I Spy quilts. Children can look for specific objects, colors, num-bers, etc to build language skills. We will primarily use 5.5 inch blocks of novelty prints, in a 6 x 7 block format. Add a border, 3-4 inches. Final quilt top size goal is less than 42 inches on the short side, to eliminate the need to piece a back. Ok to add non-novelty blocks as fillers. Alternatively, you can also use 5-6 inch blocks if you have precuts. I have a good stash of precut squares (thank you Melanie M., Lisa S., and several others who cut FQ or this project) We will assemble kits with 42 squares to distribute. Add your own border from your stash or scraps. Can be 4 different fabrics, because these quilts are colorful. Contact Jennifer Thurmond Wwaterjen@yahoo.com with questions.

SUNSHINE COMMITTEE:

If you become aware of any guild member who is ill, facing surgery, or has had a death in the family, please let Karen Beckley know. Email: karensew@aol.com or text to 614-264-6566, so that a card can be sent out on behalf of all of us.

Also, if you know of any reason to celebrate or receive a pat on the back such as graduation, promotion, or award, we would like to publish it in an upcoming newsletter. Please contact Karen with any celebrations.

Please leave your name and contact info so you can be contacted with any questions.
