April 2025 Newsletter

Welcome Spring and lots of spring showers!  I am ready for the May flowers. I really enjoyed listening to Scotty Jones, Carol Cornette’s brother.  He is such a talented artist.  Remember he said his art was available at the Ohio Craft Museum.

Our speaker at this month’s regular meeting is Christa Watson of Christa Quilts. She specializes in machine quilting and says she enjoys sharing the satisfaction of creating your quilts from start to finish. She has taught classes at Quiltcon and Quiltfest AND she will be teaching a class for us at the Pataskala Library on Wednesday, April 23rd  from 9-3.  Make sure you save your spot by registering on the website in the Shop section.

CHARITY QUILTS

A nurse from Nationwide reached out to the quilt guild about making covers for incubators. I have a pattern and a spare cover. I am looking for 4 yards of material (can be coordinating) donations for the outside cover, which would be kid appropriate. There are 5 panels and a top strip. Will be washed every 2 weeks, so cotton would be best. We need to make 15 covers, but not all at once. I have a potential patron who will likely pay for the darker heavy material on the underside, which blocks the light to the babies. I will have the pattern and example at the guild meeting and the May retreat. Please contact me if you have material to donate or would like to do some stitching. Wwaterjen@yahoo.com or 614.746.2969.

SWAPS

Month 2 of the friendship swap! By the April meeting you should have completed two 12.5” blocks using the material provided. You will give the box in your possession to the SAME person as last month.

Upcoming swap: We will be making some very cute and easy double bow tie blocks from Kona Natural and 1930s fabric. Use up your 30s scraps or make all of your blocks from one 30s print. The number of blocks to be determined.

2026 QUILT SHOW RAFFLE QUILT COMMITTEE

Consider joining this committee to help pick the quilt pattern and process for putting together our 2026 quilt show raffle quilt. If interested please reach out to Cheryl Nash by our April meeting, craenash@yahoo.com or text at 203-417-5882.

TREASURER INFO

The full year to date report through March 22nd is attached below. This is the detail on what was shared verbally at the meeting in March. I will not be at the April meeting or April workshop - weather permitting, I'll be in Paducah at Quilt Week seeing a quilt I quilted in the show! If you need reimbursement for something before the May retreat or May meeting, email Betsy to coordinate your reimbursement: elizabeth.truex@gmail.com

RETREAT OFFER FOR FUNDRAISER

The guild received a retreat offer for a new retreat space that opened near Cincinnati - they're trying to get the word out to guilds and ask for feedback after the stay to improve their space. The retreat offer is for two nights for up to 10 guests and must be used by August. The guild is using this as a fundraising activity - buy 6 chances for $5 at the April and May meetings, with a winner drawn at the May meeting! Winner need not be present to win. View the retreat space at www.wolfangelretreat.com - 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, full kitchen, wooded lot - looks like lots of fun for you and your quilty friends this summer!

BIRTHDAY FQ SWAP

We don’t have any birthdays in April, but if you have FQ’s from earlier months to turn in, you can still turn them in at the swap table before the meeting!

FQ RAFFLE

Polka dots…who doesn’t love polka dots?!?!?   Reminder…you get a raffle ticket for each FQ you turn in!

Questions on either the Birthday FQ or monthly FQ raffle?   Contact Betsy Zimmerman at penguinopoly@gmail.com.
