Veruschka (Ver-u-sh-Ka) Zarate (Za-ra-Tee) began her quilting journey in 2016, shortly after having her two little boys. She decided to dedicate herself to the education and raising of her two precious boys and set aside her professional career in Marriage & Family Therapy to accomplish that. Along the way, she developed a love of quilting and later a passion for foundation paper piecing (fpp). Her quilting work is focused on creating unique FPP portraits.
Wanting to integrate her calling to encourage and empower others, she integrated her background in psychology with quilting by developing a series of Iconic Foundation Paper Piecing Pattern Books. Partnering with C & T Publishing to bring this pattern book series to life, these quilt pieces will highlight iconic and amazing women throughout history who vary in time, age, culture and passions but who all used their voice to become the fullest expression of themselves and thus making an impact on this world. The first in the series will be released December 25, 2020 entitled “Empowerment: A Quilt Pattern Book Honoring Women in Activism.”
In addition, Veruschka has set out to dispel the idea that FPP is “too hard” or complicated for quilters of all skill levels. With tons of free YOUTUBE videos that show how to FPP from start to finish, she is aiming to make FPP more accessible and FUN for others.
It is her most sincere hope that quilters of all ages will find inspiration through these unique and one of a kind foundation paper pieces.
